In 1937, Walter Gropius joined the GSD faculty as chair of the Department of Architecture and brought modern designers, including Marcel Breuer to help revamp the curriculum. These and other problems demand a deep and systems-level understanding of the underlying problem architecture, which in turn enables innovative, multi-faceted solutions that transcend disciplines and scales. The Doctor of Design (D.Des.) program at the Harvard Graduate School of Design is a leading doctoral degree program for professionals who wish to conduct rigorous, intensive design research. The program is geared towards applied research that advances design related knowledge in a broad range of scales from product design to buildings and landscapes to urban design and regional planning. Accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board and open to students with an undergraduate degree, the two-year professional Master in Urban Planning (M.U.P.) degree program engages with critical issues facing cities and regions in coming decades.

The DDes program is highly regarded internationally, and DDes alumni have become thought leaders in their respective fields. Their work promotes and advances improvements of the built and the natural environment worldwide. They hold prestigious positions in private practice, industry, government and academia. The design disciplines are critical to engaging the most urgent and complex conditions of our time, and the Master in Design Studies program at the GSD prepares students to rise to the challenge, with training that is at once foundational, multitudinous, and incisive. While priority will be given to students with a design background, MDes is broadly welcoming of students from a wide range of educational backgrounds and life experiences, and deliberate in mobilizing the full intellectual capacity of the GSD in support of MDes students’ ambitions. With more than 50 issues in print, Harvard Design Magazine probes beyond the reaches of the established design disciplines to enrich and challenge current discourse.

At a public meeting Wednesday night in Cambridge, state officials presented proposals for the parkland and shoreline that will open up following the realignment, including filling in the riverbank to varying degrees or constructing a boardwalk or sea wall, and different ways of managing stormwater runoff. This issue examines multihyphenation as a mode of creative practice, a political response, and an economic imperative in our 21st century neoliberal world. Our world’s increasingly complex problems demand a deep understanding of underlying problem architecture, the capacity to imagine bold futures, and the ability to build and test prototypes geared toward maximum impact. The Master in Design Engineering (MDE) program prepares a new generation of leaders to create transformative solutions that address societal grand challenges.

Live From Daryl’s House Is Back For A New Season

Live from Daryl's House (simply known as Daryl's House and often abbreviated as LFDH) is an online music series that debuted in the autumn of 2007. The show features singer-songwriter Daryl Hall performing with his band and various guest artists at his home in Millerton, New York.[1] The show provides a performance space that is an alternative to live concerts and studio sessions for popular artists. This allows the artists to "…have fun and [be] creatively spontaneous".[2] The majority of shows include a segment in which Hall and the guest artist prepare food from different cuisines for everyone to eat. The food comes from various local restaurants and the chefs of those establishments walk Hall and guest through the preparation of the food. Following Glenn Tilbrook, viewers can look forward to Atlanta’s psychedelic jam band Blackberry Smoke’s singer and guitarist, Charlie Starr, on November 8. November 15 brings a special treat with King Crimson guitarist and producer of Daryl Hall’s solo albums, Robert Fripp, teaming up with Daryl.

Common to the diverse range of DDes research investigations is the belief that design research makes essential contributions to understanding, analyzing and ultimately improving the built environment in our increasingly complex world. In 1900, the first urban planning courses were taught at Harvard University, and by 1909, urban planning courses taught by James Sturgis Pray were added to Harvard's design curriculum as part of the then School of Landscape Architecture. In 1923, a specialization in urban planning was established under the degree program of Master in Landscape Architecture. In 1929, North America's first urban planning degree (at the graduate level) was established at Harvard under short-term funding from the Rockefeller Foundation.

As the show's titular, grumpy doctor, Hugh Laurie led eight seasons of the iconic show and scooped up Golden Globe awards in the process. Whether you caught Laurie in The Night Manager or watched the dreamy Dr. Robert Chase save the day in Chicago Fire, all of our favorites from the show have gone on to star in great shows and movies. Will also air a mini-marathon of House episodes on Friday, July 24 starting at 2 p.m., so we're catching up with the cast and what they've achieved since we last saw them at Princeton–Plainsboro Teaching Hospital.

Movies / TV

While she was the last to join House's Diagnostics Team, Odette Annable made a big impression during the show's final season. Since the show has wrapped, Laurie has had supporting roles in shows like Veep and The Night Manager. Diagnosed with terminal Huntington's disease, Thirteen appeared in 81 episodes of "House." Almost immediately after "House" finished, Spencer took up a role as firefighter Matthew Casey in the drama "Chicago Fire," which he held until the show ended in 2021. Like Foreman, Dr. Robert Chase was part of Dr. House's diagnostics team until the end of season three, when House fired him. Hugh Laurie starred as Dr. Gregory House in all eight seasons of "House."

Jacobson is still acting today.

Just about eight years ago, we said goodbye to the M.D.'s on House after a thrilling eight seasons of unexplained medical cases, exciting friendships and plenty of zingers from Hugh Laurie's Dr. House. Peter Jacobson joined the cast of "House" as Dr. Chris Taub in season four. Foreman was one of the most prominent characters in all eight seasons of "House." Lisa Edelstein starred as Dr. Lisa Cuddy, Princeton–Plainsboro Teaching Hospital's Dean of Medicine and Dr. House's love interest, in "House" from seasons one to seven. Peter Jacobson plays the role of Dr. Chris Taub, a plastic surgeon who joins Dr. House's team.

Chase

For eight seasons, House took over the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey. The medical drama ran from 2004 to 2012 with the House cast of characters led by Dr. Gregory House, played brilliantly by Hugh Laurie, displaying unconventional diagnostic yet genius methods to solve complex medical cases with his team — and with his cane. As Dr. Chase, the diagnostic team’s surgeon and ICU specialist, Spencer played a prominent role throughout the series. After the medical drama went off the air, he took his good looks to another long running series in 2012 as Lieutenant/Captain Matthew Casey on Chicago Fire, remaining on the show. House is a medical drama that revolves around the enigmatic Dr. Gregory House and his team of diagnosticians at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. With its innovative storytelling approach and memorable characters, this series captivates audiences and has become a long-lasting TV hit.

TV network Fox took a chance on the program about a group of doctors at New Jersey’s Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, and it was obvious from the beginning that it would would be one of their mainstays. Season one alone logged in an average of 13 million viewers per episode — peaking in season three with almost 20 million viewers!

Created by David Shore, the Emmy-winning series ran for eight seasons on Fox and it was one of the highest-rated shows on television during its peak. It also notably elevated Kal Penn and Olivia Wilde's careers, who joined the acclaimed series during its second half. Having concluded its run in 2012, it's been eight years since House aired on TV.

'X-Men' director Bryan Singer is one of the executive producers. Following immunologist Dr. Allison Cameron, Jennifer, 40, wasn’t immune from taking another long running role — as Emma on Once Upon a Time. Plus, she’s been on How I Met Your Mother and This Is Us and made her feature film directorial debut with Sun Dogs. “The boldest thing they’ve done is put such a mean, unsympathetic character at the center of it,” Hugh once told USA Today about his role on the show. The Hollywood star also worked alongside Robert Chase, Jennifer Morrison, Jesse Spencer, Omar Epps and Lisa Edelstein. One of the most talked about departures from a TV series was Epps’ as surgical resident Dr. Dennis Gant on ER, which left audiences wondering if his character committed suicide or not.

A celebrated English comedian who was previously best known for A Bit of Fry & Laurie, Sense and Sensibility, 101 Dalmatians, and Stuart Little 1 & 2, House gave Laurie a great deal of acclaim as a dramatic actor, furthering his career in the U.S. Lisa Edelstein is not a doctor, which she played for seven years as part of the House cast, and she is not a divorced middle-aged woman as she portrayed in Bravo’s Girlfriends Guide to Divorce. Yet Edelstein has the feisty, independent streak both onscreen women possess.

However, it couldn’t have come at a better time for Hugh, who found himself struggling to continue to play the iconic character. In addition to TV and feature films, he’s is a three-time Tony Award nominee and won Best Featured Actor in a Play in 2001 for his role in The Invention of Love.

Throughout House's run, six of the main actors have received star billing. They kiss and agree to try being a couple.[115] Throughout season seven, House and Cuddy try to make their relationship work, but Cuddy eventually breaks it off because of House's addiction. House struggles to deal with this and, in the season-seven finale, drives his car into Cuddy's living room in anger.

Perhaps her biggest role was as Dr. Lisa Cuddy, the Dean of Medicine, on House. She was the frequent adversary, friend and eventual girlfriend of House, her responsibility, it seemed, to play the grown-up foil to the ragamuffin Dr. House. No stranger to fearless and even iconic TV roles, she was Rob Lowe’s call girl girlfriend on West Wing, transsexual Cindy on Ally McBeal and the first out-lesbian on network TV in Relativity. One of the most talked about departures from a TV series was Epps' as surgical resident Dr. Dennis Gant on ER, which left audiences wondering if his character committed suicide or not. Chief of Diagnostic Medicine at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital.

In 1989, he took second billing in Dead Poets Society as a young student whose passion for acting is smothered in fear of his father’s wrath. His performance was hailed as an equal to the film’s star, Robin Williams who received an Academy Award for his role. His first role was a small one in 1986's My Two Loves and the same year he was also in the suspense thriller, The Manhattan Project. Known by most as Dr. Wilson on House and his most recent role on HBO’s The Gilded Age as Rev. Luke Forte, Robert Sean Leonard’s career has spanned a number of classic films and noted television roles.

The role was played by Robert Sean Leonard in all eight seasons. No longer a world where an idealized doctor has all the answers or a hospital where gurneys race down the hallways, House's focus is on the pharmacological—and the intellectual demands of being a doctor. The trial-and-error of new medicine skillfully expands the show beyond the format of a classic procedural, and at the show's heart, a brilliant but flawed physician is doling out the prescriptions—a fitting symbol for modern medicine. “I had some pretty bleak times, dark days when it seemed like there was no escape,” he continued. “And having a very Presbyterian work ethic, I was determined never to be late, not to miss a single day’s filming.

After her time on this drama series, Edelstein played the lead role in Bravo's dramedy series, Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce, which concluded in 2018. Edelstein had recurring roles in Castle, American Dad, The Legend of Korra, The Good Doctor, The Kominsky Method, for which she received a Screen Actors Guild ensemble nomination, and House of Lies — a different House altogether. The actress also played a role in the indie dramedy, Joshy, and she recently starred in Phoenix, Oregon, which was released earlier this year. Up next, Edelstein will be seen in Dr. Bird's Advice for Sad Poets.

And Chicago Med, respectively, and he also appeared in 2015's action/crime-thriller, The Girl Is in Trouble. Furthermore, Spencer lent his voice to a brief role in Phineas and Ferb. Outside of acting, Spencer keeps in touch with Hugh Laurie through their charity cover group, Band from TV. House (also called House, M.D.) is an American medical drama television series that originally ran on the Fox network for eight seasons, from November 16, 2004, to May 21, 2012. The series' premise originated with Paul Attanasio, while David Shore, who is credited as creator, was primarily responsible for conceiving the title character.

The materials were often top-notch, and nearly 100 years later many of these small, old houses are eagerly sought after. The second floor boasts a very private master suite (with a generous walk-in closet space and a luxurious bathroom).

Country Style House Plans, Floor Plans & Designs

country house plans

This gives country homes a warm, inviting feel that is often absent from homes made with modern materials such as concrete and steel. Country homes come in one- and two-story designs and are typically finished in wood siding for a clean, simple look. Low country house plans are typically only found in Southern, marshy climates and differ quite a bit from country house plans. Low country house plans are more like coastal house plans because they're frequently raised and resting on piers to capture cooling breezes and prevent flooding of the main house. Country house plans are similar to farmhouse-style homes, making the designs relatively close in style and appearance. The color palates are muted and natural, and the accents and decor will look more antique or distressed.

What to Look for in Country Home Designs

Most concrete block (CMU) homes have 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 exterior walls on the 2nd story.

These materials are often used to create a sense of rustic charm, with exposed wooden beams, stone fireplaces, and brick and stone accents adding to the home's overall character and warmth. The master suite is located on the first level and features a private entrance to the rear deck for easy outdoor relaxing. The combination of modern and country design aesthetics, though initially odd, results in a harmonious blend. Modern country style takes off the excesses of traditional Design, leaving behind only the most visually pleasing elements that peak the natural and organic characteristics of country living. Whether you are looking for a primary residence or a vacation home, the country style has something to offer. With its focus on natural materials, large front porches, and simple, yet elegant design, the country style is sure to remain a classic choice for homeowners for many years to come.

Country house plans trace their origins to the picturesque cottages described by Andrew Jackson Downing in his books "Cottage Residences", of 1842, and "The Architecture of Country Houses", of 1850. Country house plans overlap with cottage plans and Farmhouse style floor plans, though Country home plans tend to be larger than cottages and make more expressive use of wood for porch posts, siding, and trim. Today's Country style house plans emphasize a woodsy simplicity with a central door, evenly spaced windows, a front and/or a rear porch or wrap-around veranda, and a gabled roof. Overall, country style home plans offer a sense of warmth, comfort, and casual elegance, with their focus on natural materials, covered porches, and open living spaces. Whether you're looking to build a new home or renovate an existing one, a country floor plan may be the perfect home choice for those seeking a functional and inviting living space.

Whether it's a primary residence in a suburban environment or a vacation home hidden in the rural countryside, country style houses are the architectural embodiment of the American Dream. Any homeowner can appreciate the traditional wraparound porch, Palladian window, and dormers--all which make the exterior distinctive and visually interesting. Once you’re on the inside, you’ll find a spacious great room--complete with a fireplace, cathedral ceiling, and clerestory windows-- that flows effortlessly to the back deck. The kitchen is conveniently located in between the dining room and breakfast area (that includes a view of the rear deck), and boasts a pass-through for easy food service into the great room. Open layouts give you the chance to really increase that feeling of extra space, and with a smaller country house plan, they work exceedingly well! When you come through the entry, you’ll find yourself in the midst of a large and welcoming great room.

The large garage is ideal for convenient vehicle storage or for extra work space. The open layout of the great room and the kitchen (with a walk-in pantry) creates a generous sense of space, and leads you directly to the substantial rear porch. Country homes also often feature large, covered wraparound porches, which provide a welcoming entrance to the home and a space to enjoy the outdoors.

But I thought that it might be fun to be the lead guy’s friend. I lean in the door and say ‘Hey, what do you think about egg salad for lunch? It was a great gig.” In real life, Leonard and Laurie remain close friends long after House went off the air. In addition to TV and feature films, he's is a three-time Tony Award nominee and won Best Featured Actor in a Play in 2001 for his role in The Invention of Love. But it was being cast as Dr. Gregory House — lead of the House cast — that put his star into the stratosphere.

Omar Epps (Dr. Eric Foreman)

As Lisa Edelstein left the show before season eight, after this incident Cuddy leaves the hospital and House never sees her again. As Dr. Lisa Cuddy, an endocrinologist and Dean of Medicine who had a passionate working/personal relationship with Dr. House, Lisa Edelstein had a primary role in House until its seventh season finale. The character resigns from her position, and she wasn't seen in the show's final season.

Series Crew 80

On February 8, 2012, Fox announced that the eighth season, then in progress, would be its last.[4] The series finale aired on May 21, 2012, following an hour-long retrospective. The role garnered Edelstein the People’s Choice Award for Favorite TV Actress. As Dr. Gregory House, the troubled title character of House and Head of Diagnostic Medicine, Hugh Laurie gave an award-winning performance at the center of this show, and the only actor to appear in every episode of its nearly 200-episode run.

Other Season 4 Applicants

He appeared in lead roles in such films as Against the Ropes opposite Meg Ryan, Alfie opposite Jude Law and Susan Sarandon, In Too Deep, Higher Learning and more. House was among the top 10 series in the United States from its second through fourth seasons. Distributed to 71 countries, it was the most-watched TV program in the world in 2008.[3] It received numerous awards, including five Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, a Peabody Award, and nine People's Choice Awards.

Jennifer Morrison

We were introduced to Jennifer Morrison's character Dr. Allison Cameron in the first season of House, where she was the only woman on the team at first. After portraying the unforgettable role on the show, Leonard went on to play a recurring role in Falling Skies and in the miniseries The Hot Zone. He also took the stage in theatre productions of To Kill a Mockingbird, Camelot and more. Now, we see Jesse Spencer in show where he is leading a team as he plays the character Captain Matthew Casey in Chicago Fire. We loved watching Peter Jacobson's portrayal as Taub, a dynamic character that was both an addict and a voice of reason for the other doctors. While her season seven arc as the Martha M. Masters was short and sweet, we've seen a lot of Amber Tamblyn since when she starred in 24 episodes of Two and a Half Men and being a critical voice around the #MeToo movement.

Robert Sean Leonard played Dr. James Wilson, who was House's only true friend and quite frankly one of our favorite supporting actors thanks to their buddy dynamic. Jennifer Morrison played Dr. Allison Cameron, another of Dr. House's team and Chase's wife, between seasons one and six of "House."

Beyond doubt, the performances of the cast of House have shaped an enduring legacy that fans will continue to treasure for years to come. After its first five seasons, House was included in various critics' top-ten lists; these are listed below in order of rank. It wasn't a massive move when I first considered [doing House]. What usually happens is you do a pilot and of the very few picked up, only about a quarter go to a second year. We knew the network was looking for procedurals, and Paul [Attanasio] came up with this medical idea that was like a cop procedural. But I quickly began to realize that we needed that character element.

Here's what the cast of House has been working on since the program came to a close. As Dr. Robert Chase, the diagnostic team's surgeon and intensive care specialist, Jesse Spencer played a prominent role throughout House's tenure. The Australian actor was previously known for Neighbours and Uptown Girl, though House is arguably considered his most famous role. Nevertheless, once the Fox medical show concluded, Spencer joined another long-running series. Specifically, Spencer can be seen as Lieutenant/Captain Matthew Casey on the NBC drama series, Chicago Fire. He got the gig in 2012 and still remains on the popular series.

Specializes in infectious diseases and nephrology and a board certified diagnostician while also possessing an antisocial nature as well as an unwillingness to meet or treat his patients. After leaving the show to pursue her film career, Wilde is a burgeoning writer, actress and director, whose directorial debut Booksmart last year premiered to wild praise. Olivia Wilde portrayed Dr. Remy "Thirteen" Hadley on the show, perfectly playing the bisexual M.D. Who also had an interesting storyline involving learning she carried the Huntington's disease gene. After it wrapped, she starred in two shows that were one-season wonders (The Grinder and The Astronaut Wives Club) before landing her latest big role as Reign on Supergirl.

A significant element contributing to the show's narrative is the superb ensemble cast, embodying their roles with exceptional skill and finesse. Writers Doris Egan, Sara Hess, Russel Friend, and Garrett Lerner joined the team at the start of season two. Friend and Lerner, who are business partners, had been offered positions when the series launched, but turned the opportunity down. Playing Dr. Chi Park, a neurologist with anger management issues, Charlyne Yi was another late-in-the-game addition to House's main cast. Also, the dramatic series was a departure from the comedian's typically light-hearted work, which could include music, magic, and other quirky elements.

Panels – Fabric pieces used to create the shape of the cap. Most caps are 6 panel caps with a seam in the center of the front crown but there are also 5 panel and 8 panel caps. 5 panel caps are mainly used for “trucker caps” or caps that have screen printing on the front instead of embroidery. Panels are sewn together with thread matching the color of the cap material or with a contrasting color. Fabric of the panels is normally cotton twill and can be brushed or made thicker if needed. Other fabric types are wool, mesh or performance materials that allow for greater moisture wicking or ventilation.
